Erection procedure of artificial stone

1. Preparation of artificial stone disposal plan/ design project.

It is necessary to perform a preliminary outline of the artificial stone placement on the wall surface, taking into account the shape and color of the stone and place of its application.

2. Preparation of the wall surface.

If there is old paint, wallpaper or putty on the wall you should use a metal spatula and stiff wire brush to clean the surface.

Then you should treat it with the acrylic water-based primer with a roller or brush.
If the stone is installed on the exterior walls (brick, concrete blocks, gas concrete, concrete, wood), it is necessary to prepare them: to stick masking grid on the wall (with mesh size of 5x5 mm) and then apply a layer of plaster to the surface of the wall. If the wall is plastered additional training is not required.

When applying adhesive to the outer surface of the wall in the area of the expansion joint, it is necessary to close the decorative elements.

If the installation of stone on the interior walls and the surface of the wall consists of individual elements, such as gypsum boards, wooden panels, etc., the joints between the parts necessary to be glued with a tape, and only then an adhesive compound is applied on the surface of the wall to glue stone.

3. Preparation of the stone.

It is necessary to mix tiles from several boxes. This will give the canvas of walls the uniqueness of natural stone colors. If on the back side of the stone there is a “cement milk", which has a foam or glossy layer, it must be removed with a stiff brush.

4. The application of the adhesive compound.

Adhesive should be thick and pliable, crumbly consistency is not permitted. Special frost-resistant glue for stone is used for outdoor works. Silicone glue, liquid nails, latex - for interior works.

Laying the stone to sand and cement mortar is not recommended, as the efflorescence may form. The adhesive compound is applied with a notched trowel on artificial stone itself and on the surface of the wall, to which it will adhere. The layer thickness is of a few millimeters, the surface area covered by the adhesive composition at a time should be no more than 0.5 - 1 m² (to apply stone before the start of setting adhesive).

5. Laying of decorative stone to the wall.

When laying, stone must be pressed against the wall, so that the glue excess squeezed around its perimeter. It provides a good seal adhesive solution.

Laying should start with the corners and continue horizontally completing each row before starting the next. Laying can be performed in the directions as "top-down" and "bottom-up".

It should also be controlled that residual glue during gluing won’t fall on the front part of the artificial stone, as their removal will be difficult.

6. Rustication.

Installation of artificial stone can be carried out in two ways:

  • "With jointing" - in this case between two stones there is a space that should be filled with the adhesive compound.
    Pigment can be added to an adhesive compound to impart seam any color.
    Usually the recommended jointing seam height is of 10 mm.
    "Crosses" can be used at temperatures below + 10 °C for the ease of installation.
    When installing the stone it is recommended to maintain the same width and parallel rows of stitches.

    After the installation of the artificial stone with jointing seam you must wait until the solution will slightly give moisture (will be semi-dry), and then level it with previously prepared wooden spatula of width and shape needed.

    If the extruded adhesive is not enough for rust formatting or stone places on another type of adhesive it is required to fill the seam.

    For this purpose, a special filler for joints (conical bag or syringe gun) from which the mixture is extruded into the seam area.

  • "Without the seams" - in this case, free space between the stones is not left, the stones are attached tightly to each other.

    After completion of work when the adhesive compound properties have not gained strength, but at the same time part of moisture from its surface evaporated and some moisture is absorbed by wall itself, you must clean the surface of the stone with a dry brush. This excess of the adhesive easily crumbles, without dirtying the surface of the wall.

7. Application of a protective coating.

Next hydrophobisator must be applied on the artificial surface of the stone with a repellent roller or brush. It is recommended to handle masonry construction with hydrophobic impregnation "Ukrepit".

Application of impregnation - once in 10 years.

Impregnation of artificial stone:
  • protects the surface from moisture, moss and fungus outdoors and in wet areas indoors;
  • retain the color of the stone intact even under direct sunlight;
  • will extend the service of stone and strengthen the surface.
